{"id":789,"date":"2011-05-18T11:00:14","date_gmt":"2011-05-18T17:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blografia.net\/vicm3\/?p=789"},"modified":"2011-05-18T11:02:00","modified_gmt":"2011-05-18T17:02:00","slug":"self-aware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blografia.net\/vicm3\/2011\/05\/self-aware\/","title":{"rendered":"Self aware"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anant Agarwal, a professor in the MIT Electrical Engineering and  Computer Sciences Department, said computers need to be more like humans  if they&#8217;re going to be able to take advantage of engineering advances.<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>\u00abWe need to rethink compilers, operating systems, architectures, how we  program computers; The first thing you want to do is to have  applications be able to communicate their goals to the operating  system,\u00bb Agarwal said. \u00abWhat we need is self-aware computation.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>That would be like having an application \u00abtell\u00bb an operating system  what it needs in terms of processing power, and then having the OS   balance that need with the needs of other applications running at the  same time.<\/p>\n<p>Agarwal noted that a human heart can communicate exactly what the body needs at any given point in time function optimally.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abIf you&#8217;re a good runner, your body temperature actually goes down  the longer you run,\u00bb he said. \u00abIf you&#8217;re a computer, the longer you run  the higher the temperature goes.
